Kiel at night

Kiel is the state capital of Schleswig-Holstein . As Holstenstadt tom Kyle founded in the 13th century, it was in 1900, with more than 100,000 inhabitants to the big city . Today Kiel heard with 241,533 inhabitants  to the 30 largest cities in Germany and is the center of Kiel region .
The northernmost city in Germany is located on the Baltic Sea ( Kiel Fjord ) and is the terminus of the busiest artificial waterway in the world of international Kiel Canal said the Kiel Canal . Kiel has traditionally been an important base of the German Navy and known for the annual international sailing event Kieler Woche , the handball club THW Kiel and through the culinary specialty of sprats .
